Ed Ensign came to work for the Browning Brothers between 1880 and 1883 while they were producing their single shot rifle. He had spent a year prior working for a blacksmith and quickly proved a versatile mechanic and machinist. He rose from gunsmith to foreman of the Ogden shop and would continue on with the company for more than forty years.
