US patent No. 499007 is one of seven John Browning patents purchased by Winchester in 1892 but never produced. It is a lever action which uses a box magazine and en bloc clip. In an unusual arrangement, the lever swings rearward toward the operator.

This rifle uses a similar magazine and en bloc clip arrangement to previous patents but with a simplified magazine follower. The tilting bolt unlocks by moving its rear end upward. The lever is unusual in that it has no finger loop and is operated by the trigger guard.
